Default 25hp 4-stroke mariner high pitched noise at control box

HelloI had the boat out this weekend and when powering up I heard a slowly increasing high pitched noise coming from the contol box. Is this an alarm? The box is Mariner. The noise would die off if I powered down. If it is an alarm, what alarm is it? The tellatle was still fine and the oil is fine too.Aren't the alarms on the motor? I thought that they were but wonder that now that since she is converted from tiller to wheel and controls that the alarm is wired closer to where one can hear it.The only thing I can think of, if it is the alarm, is that all the load was in the front of the boat and when planing perhaps the motor was not getting sufficient water perhaps? The installer cannot help me. I'm afraid to take it out and don't want to waste a trip to the mechanic if unecessary.Your help is appreciated.Todd

They put the alarm in the control so they know it's going to be close enough to the operator to be heard. There aren't any on motors. They figure you're close enough to keep an eye on the telltale if the motor has a tiller. The alarm is supposed to sound a steady strong tone if the motor overheats, not sure about low oil pressure. Odd that it started quiet and got louder. It might be a bad hot horn. Or you might have had a temporary blockage of the water intakes...like bits of weeds. If you're concerned and not confident in checking it yourself, have it checked by someone that would know.

willyThanks for the reply. The mechanics I talked to at the shop where it was installed were at a loss too.I will look at the intakes. Should see gunk on the screen I guess? The telltale was fine and running nicely.I should have felt the water.Any other possibilities?Todd
