Testing confirms my switchbox is bad in a 1985 90hp merc outboard. I believe the PN is 332-7778A12 (I assume mercurypartsexpress.com would list only the newest part #). Anyway I plugged it in to the search box on iboats and found it for $169 (mercury dealer wants $202 for it plus tax). I guess I would save tax ordering it online but when i put in my zip code it said $15 shipping... for a little box UPS ground! When you order from iboats is it one company or is iboats a search engine for many small companies? When I searchd for it a few months ago it was $166....

Re: Cheap switchbox

There's usually good used guaranteed ones on Ebay much cheaper. I'd bet on it.

Search on: Mercury ADI switchbox

-W

Clams right, E-Bay is the best bet. Just make sure you can return it if defective. But you can also get it here for $167.34 or here for 135.00

web page

Re: Cheap switchbox

I'm very sure he can return the one currently on Ebay if it's defective. :D

Those $135 ones are from Rapair right? They rebuild dead ones and I've had very good luck with stuff from them too.

I get 20% off on Merc parts for my little shop, but with shipping costs and all it's not worth me even dealing in brand new parts to an end user. Even if I made only 10% then add on shipping - there no $$ advantage to dealing with me as opposed to the parts counter.

Even with 20%, I still buy 3/4 of my new parts on the aftermarket - They're still cheaper than OEM by a decent margin. Mercury really spanks you for parts. If nothing else the high price of new parts makes the used parts market bearable. <sigh>

-W

Re: Cheap switchbox

Can I use a 7778A9 on this motor? I saw a cheap one and it looks pretty similar. Can I basically use any A revision as long as it's a 332-7778?

Thanks
