I am purchasing a 1994 Ranger 481V. It has a Mariner Mag. 175 EFI. It was not used for the last 4 years. The fuel system was cleaned out, along with the tank. A new water pump was also installed. Problem is when launched it starts fine and idles to about 2000 rpm, but when you give it the gas it cuts out and will not plane off. Please help.

See my thread (firedude), sounds suspiciously like my past problem.

You need to pull the vapor seperator tank(VST) and clean it internally, the inlet float and filter on the end of electric fuel pump. Also the fuel rails need to be pulled and cleaned along with the injectors as the injectors have small filters in the end of them and will stop-up. The fuel and oil mixes and is sent to the VST and then sent to the injectors. You now have a varnish where fuel has evaporated and oil has turned to goo. Send them(injectors) to Tony or Linda @ http://www.brucatosvs.com/ where they will be cleaned and balanced flowed so all match.
