6 terminals on a rectifier? On a Merc? Have we had a few too many boat drinks there mellowyellow? There are 3 terminals on the rectifier for that engine, one red and two yellow/red. The brown wire connects to one of the yellow/red wires and provides a signal for the tach. Good luck!
