Default 60 hp Mercury,Water Pressure?

Anyone have an idea how much water pressure I should have on my "99" 60 hp merc outboard. Just put a new impellor kit in it and it appears to be working fine. Would like to install a water pressure guage but what psi scale do I need? 0-15psi,0-30psi. Any answer would be appreciated.

Well the service manual says the water pressure should be 12-15psi at wide open throttle, if that helps. Good luck!

Thanks Dilligaf for the reply. Think I'll put a 0-30psi gauge on it. At least the needle wouldn't get pegged. I bought a manual and couldn't find anywhere what kind of water pressure the pump might develope. Thanks again.

My 50hp puts out about 7-8 PSI at WOT. I think 12-15 may be a bit optimistic for a 60!!!My manual says 4-10 at various speeds. The big bangers go close to 20..

Thanks Merc805 for your reply. I think I'll remove a vent/drain plug in the waterjacket over cylinder head and place a temporary pressure gauge in it to see what water pressure it has before I buy one to put in dash. Thanks again.

12 to 15 psi should at WOT should give you ample amounts of cooling water. I would get the 0 to 15 guage. It will be easier to read. You most likely will not peg the needle. Besides, anything over 15 is gravy on the cake. The 0-15 guage will better show your pressure drop due to impellar wear/fin break/blockage.

Thanks Bushcat for your response. I'll try my temporary gauge first. I definetly don't want a gauge that will read on the low end of it's scale. You're right about impeller wear,ect... Hopefully the weather will be decent here to try it out this weekend.

I just bought a SunTracker 21Pontoon w/ 2005 Merc/Tracker 'BigFoot' 60 on it. Went for our first run on the lake yesterday and at WOT (5000 RPM) the Water pressure is reading 16 PSI
