Painting an outboard

I just stripped the whole shaft/leg/hyd pumps/clamps absolutely everything to a shiny aluminium... It looks alright and i CBF painting it<br /><br />Its a mercury 650cc Thunderbolt 1970..... Basically if i give it a good coat of carnuba waxes will it stay shiny and not corrode?<br /><br />Thanks

y2j,<br /><br />I'll bet is does look cool. But, not for very long. You will be chasing corrosion on that thing-forever.<br /><br />I would paint it.<br /><br />1. Wash the whole thing down with 50/50 solution of vinegar and water.<br /><br />2. Prime with Zinc Chromate paint.<br /><br />3. Paint the color of your choice. I believe Merc's. color is "Phantom Black".

If you like the shiny motor, how about a clear coat?

what does CBF mean?<br /><br />and why wouldnt a shot of clear coat protect it?<br />although, aluminum is tough to poilsh to uniform shine ... and its pretty brutal on the other boaters subjected to your Thunderbolt powered semaphone!!!
