Which to buy - Merc 115 or Honda 135?

Trying again. I'm new here and fat fingering this all over the place.<br /><br />I'm ready to buy a Lund 1775 Pro-V SE (console model). Trying to decide on power. Choice is between Merc 115 and Honda 135. boat range is 90-150hp I want enough motor but not too much. Priorities - adequate power (recreational weekend fisherman); reliability (starts first time, every time); durability (lasts a long time with regular routine maintenance); fuel efficiency.<br /><br />I like my current Yamaha and Yamaha makes the power head for the Merc 115. I assume you are talking about the Merc 115 EFI 4 stroke, Paul. Good engine.<br /><br />Don't know anything about the Honda 135. I thought the Honda in that range was a 130, which is also a good engine.<br /><br />If you are limited to those two, I would go with the better dealer.<br /><br />Good luck.

You will never regret getting the bigger engine. I also heard the Honda 130 was being phased out.<br />If you moved up to the Honda 135 you would be getting same basic engine as the 150 (less VTEC) and be about 18 pounds lighter than the older 130.<br />JD

Of the 115's, I like the Johnson/Suzuki for the smaller engine bulk and they run great too.

Paul G,<br />since JRJ mentioned it, I actually bought and installed a Johnson (Suzuki) 140 4-stroke this Februray. Have 145 hours on it. Quiet, smooth, easy starting, like it a lot. In my area it was about 3k less than either the Honda or Yamaha 150 4-strokes.<br />JD
