Which side to put muffs on on Mercury??

Hi, on a 2000 Mercury 40hp, which side should I put the muffs on to run it? I bought the muffs that spray water out of one side only. Should I have bought the more expensive muffs that spray out of both sides? Does the Mercury have water inlets on both sides? Thanks for any info.

Shouldn't matter which side the water goes on, but I think your motor has the inlets well forward on the foot. Is so you will have better fit by putting the muffs on from the rear instead of from the front.
