85 merc mariner wiring diagram

gday all

i am having a problem with wiring up a new ignition (3 prong) for a merc mariner 1985 40HP .

im having trouble with some surplus wires at ignition end :/ ie.pink,white,green

can i somehow loop these back or configure some way to adapt to a newer ignition with only the pos/neg/sol connections ??

would any of you kind people out there be able to tell me where i could get a wiring diagram for this set-up ? preferably free

Yes, Camstans.

You can make free (or nearly free) copies at a library. That is the only legal way I know of to get copies of copyrighted material.

It would probably be a better idea to get a manual. It would be a long-term investment and a lot cheaper than the end cost of some possible mistakes.

our libraries are a little sparse on the ole boat manual selection .

i will have to convince my mate (the owner) to bite the bullet and buy one .

the thing is that i want to convert the older ignition with many a wire coming out the back to a newer one with only the 3 terminals at the back ..
