50 hp mercury won't idle/stalls

50 hp mercury 1992 on just purchased used 20 ft. pontoon said to have been rebuilt last year and tempermental to start. when starting takes few tries and runs then when shut off has trouble restarting. but when put in gear it stalls. seems some gas leaking from bottom of motor. replaced fuel line bulb and fuel tank new. still stalls. pump bulb, will not stay primed. :confused:

If you hadn't already replaced it I'd say the primer was bad.However,since you say gas is leaking, you may have a bad gasket on the carbs and air is getting in and disrupting the vacume for the fuel line.Thus, the loss in pressure.See where the gas is leaking from.That's probably your whole problem plus its a fire hazard.keep us posted

I think a carb rebuild would be a good place to <br />start.Gas leaking out would seem to indicate gas<br />is getting to the motor but carbs are having trouble.
