This is my 1st post so bear with me. I have an 88 japanese made Mariner 40hp. It's been in storage for a number of years. I did the basics to try and get it running..new plugs, gas, oil, gas filter, lower gear oil. It smoked for a bit but is starting. Here is my confusion.
It will start when bottom plug wire is connected but top plug wire is not. It will start when both plug wires are connected and it sounds a bit stonger. It will not start when bottom plug wire is not connected and top plug wire is. Does this make sense? After running I pulled both plugs and both seem to be in the same condition, I switched them around and I get the same results. Both seem to be getting juice based on the jolts I've received
