hi wondering what i should service on this motor to get it ready for spring. i just bought it and dont have any records. is there anything besides the water pump and plugs that i ahould change just to be on the safe side. also i want to clear the top but it appears to be down to the original metalflake paint. will i hrm the flakes by sanding them...thx to everyone who has helped me sofar, bill

Don't quite know what you mean by "Metalflake Paint". All '79 Mercs that I've seen are painted black..Inside and out ???

oh sorry the metalflake is on the boat not the motor
