Hello all. I just purchased a used 17ft Blue Fin Sportsman boat. It has a Force 50hp outboard on it. I took the boat out yesterday and all is great. With full gear and 2 adults on board, the boat gets up on plane, but the bow seems to be high. Do I need to play with the manual trim or a different prop to correct this ? Also how do I find the recommended WOT RPM for this engine ? And finaly, anyone have a Blue Fin boat? How are they ? Thanks for the help. This forum seems very wise.

Congratulations on your new boat. Playing with the engine's trim could help lower the bow. Drop it down a notch and then test it. Play with it until you find where the boat rides the best. If the bow still seems to ride high, then you could go buy a hydrofoil or trim tabs. You'll get a lot of different opinions on this. Many times, you can find WOT RPM's on prop manufacturers web sites, although you may have trouble finding this because Force is no longer made. This is how you detirmine if the boat/engine is propped correctly. If the RPM's are below specs then you need a lower pitch prop, if they're above, then you need a higher pitch prop.

What year is the boat and motor? There should be a plate or decal on your motor...it could be under the cowling...it will tell the year and rec.rpms.What rpms are you turning now. We need more info first, before telling you what you should do.And you can get a service manual for the year motor.

The year is 1988, I have to look for the motor plate info for you. Can I use a car tach and if so, where do I hook it up to . Thanks again !!!!

Give us the motor model number.It is only found on the id tag located on the side of the transom mounting bracket. The recommended rpm range did vary over the years, between 4500 and 5500 rpm. So to be more specific, we need year/model info.
