Default 1983 115 Mariner charging problems

I have a 1983 Mariner 115 I6 cyl. I bought 2 new batteries for it one is a deep cycle trolling , the other is a regular car battery I use for cranking. The problem I have is that the cranking battery is not being charged while the engine is on, so my battery just drains everytime I use it. From the other questions I have read it could be the stator, or maybe even the rectifier, the problem is that I don't know what/where the rectifier is. Also, while I was running it the engine seemed to sputter and jerk. I think it is because the only power it was getting was from the battery. Any help/advice is highly appreciated.thanks ahead

To find the rectifier..follow the yellow wires from the Stator.Do you have the battery's hooked to an isolator for charging? Or is the starting battery the only one hooked to the engine?TMD

Merc ignitions get their power from the stator red & blue wires. The key just opens the black/yel wire to run and shorts the black/yel wire to ground to shut off. Get a testmeter and ckeck the crank battery voltage when running above idle. If it doesn't go above 12.5 you have a problem with one or more of these: 1. stator 2. Rectifier 3. loose / corroded connections.
