Default Mercury 110 9.8 - Excessive Smoke???

This may be a silly question and probably deserves a silly answer, but how much smoke is normal from a Merc 9.8? What can I do if there is excessive smoke? This motor has not run in awhile, so I may just be burning off what has been building up in the engine. Any thoughts on what could be causing it? Oil/Fuel mixture?Thanks...

fuel mix is 50:1The amount of smoke depends on how well the air/fuel mixture is burned. ie...to much fuel...more smoke. Low compression...more smoke, poor spark..more smoke. ect.TMD

Make sure it's being cooled. Is there a strong water stream and is it only warm to touch ? On the small twins, if you are not getting water to the top cyl, it heats up quickly and gets smokey.. Followed by a meltdown.
