another model year request - 115 inline 6 mercury

Just a quick question (or 2):<br />Mercury 115hp inline 6 serial number 8071185. What year? Anything particularly good or bad about this year? Is there a webpage somewhere that I can check to figure the year out myself? (I guess that was 3 questions!)<br /><br />Alvin

From what I have seen that motor is a 1978. I had a 1977 150 and a 1979 115 and both were excellent motors. My experience with the two that I had where that they where very reliable engines and fast. A little cold natured though.

Unless it happens to read B071185 It which case it would be a 1986.

What is the color sceeme on your Merc 115?? This can be the deciding factor on what year is correct for your motor. Does your motor have a distributer? I believe that up until 78 Mercury still used distributers (Correct me if I'm wrong.
