I recently removed the paint from my Evinrude motor down to the gel coat. I painted using Tempo zinc chromate and with four coats of Tempo marine paint. I let it dry for a day and than sanded using 800, 1000, 1500, & 2000 grit wet/dry paper. The surface is smooth. Someone mentioned I should clear coat. If so is the surface too slick? Should I re-sand using 800 paper? Should I clear coat at all? Any thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks

papa,

You can if you want to, just go ahead. Best to sand between coats though.

By the way, the cowl never had clear when it was new.

I'll bet it looks good.
