I have a 1988 15HP Mariner outboard (OC115390) that gets spark to one plug but not the other. There is a green/yellow wire that goes from the switch box to one coil and a green/white wire that goes from the switch box to the other coil. If I connect the green/yellow wire to each coil (one at a time)the plug sparks. The green/white wire hooked to the coils causes no spark. Assumption: coils are good. Question: How do I check the switch box, stator and trigger? Is this - one spark only - a common problem?
Any information would be helpful.
-Harry
hjsabourin@cmsenergy.com

Re: 15HP Mariner - Lack of spark to one cylinder

I had something similar with my 1972, Mercury 9.8hp. I determined that one of the wires going to the points was bad as well as one of the insulator blocks at the points. I don't know if this helps or applies to your situation but it worked for me and mine is running good now.
