afraid my last post was rather vague...
I have purchased a service manual for
the basic maint., but was wondering
what problems can be caused from a
motor not being used for an extended
period of time...what extra steps might
not be in the basic maint. manual????
prefer not to even attempt to run her
if it's gonna cause damage which could
be prevented. :(

Specific, Mellow?

What is an extended period, 6 months, ten years?

You probably should replace the impeller, pull the plugs, squirt some WD-40 into the cylinders and carefully pull it through by hand a few times.

Dismantle and clean the carbs and fuel pump.

Do a compression check and, while you have the plugs out, check for strong, blue spark on all cylinders.

Feed her some fresh, 87 octane, 50:1 mix and fire her up on the muffs. Kill each spark plug, one at a time and confirm that each one causes a rpm drop.

If she passes all of the above, you are ready for the water. After you have used up the 50:1 mix, if you have oil injection, too, check that it has used oil from the oil tank and use straight 87 octane thereafter.

Good luck. :)

hasn't run since 97... very limited before that.
you could eat off this engine, but am afraid of
consequences of non-use.
[*]
