Im looking at the mercury website on props. There are kinds. Dose anyone know what the proformance difference is between the strait trailing edge(cleaver) props and a normal (rounded) prop. Also what are the advantages to having a prop that has a solid center, not venting through the hub?

Re: cleaver vs rounded prop question

the cleaver props are for racing boats. spinning those high rpms, they are that way to go fast, usualy half of it is in the water the other half in the airr, that is why sometimed you will nees a nose coe pick up, to get the cooling water you need, you also have to have cooling water to cool the outdrive with those, becuase it is spinning so fast, the have little or no reverse performance and cost (starting at) 2,000 and the good ones a pair will cost you 27,000. If you are interested in racing get a good stainless steal cupped prop from merc... unless you are are spending thosand and have a custom exust systom.! good luck!
