Do I really need to replace my Mercury Switch?

Went to the boat dealer yesterday to order a new wiring harness and a mercury switch. The guy said I really didn't need a new switch since I have tilt and trim on the boat. Is he right in saying that or should I go ahead and replace it anyway?

G'Day. The mercury switch is there to cut the motor if you tilt it too high. The motor will run fine without it. Personally I would leave it out. However please don't post a topic titled "motor overheated because I tilted the motor too high"

Thanks Whaley,<br />I hope I don't have to post one of those messages. :D I would hope I'm smart enough to remember to cut the motor when I trim it up but ya just never know..... . :D
