mercury caught fire

i have a 40hp mercury serial num 0g070038,it has like a green sercuit board coverd buy plastic and that melted and caught fire,what is this board called,pluss where could i find detaild pictures of the motor that could tell me what this is,,not sure of the year of the motor

Hi, dont know whether this will be any help but www.mercurymarine.com may be able to help, does have links to the Australian homepage and details dealers and suppliers. the american site can do a parts search based on the serial number you quoted cos your outboard is younger than 1980, but you have to bogey a zip code to fool it into thinking you live in the U.S

Looks to be a 1994 model. The item that looks burned is it item #29 on this picture? If so its your switchbox or brain for your igniton system.<br /><br />
