I have a mid 80's 115hp Mariner with the common Mercury Commander series type remote control, the one with the square black button at the base of the handle for the throttle only mode. Problem: I cannot get it to go into throttle only mode. No matter what I try, nothing happens. There is only a slight spring action to the button, and it only goes in a short way when pushed, all to no avail disengaging the gear shifter for throttle only. I got the book for it (Ebay), so I took it apart, cleaned it, relubed it, and it improved nothing. Is there a trick to getting a Commander remote to go into throttle only? Any help from any of you experienced Merc/Mariner guys would be much appreciated. Thanks!

My remote control on a Merc 50 HP did the same thing. I took it apart very carefully and cleaned and lubed and reinstalled. Things seemed to work better. Just be sure to keep all connections in the same place.
