have a classic 70 1150 and looks like I'll be getting an 84 115 soon. always nice to have a
backup with the short season here....
how would you compare these 2 models and what is the differnce in design? if they both ran equally well, which one would you run first?
love my classic girl, but tempted by a much younger girl's appeal at the moment.
regards,
M.Y.

Re: merc motor comparison 115HP

Very similar motors, but the powerheads have a different bolt and probably different exhaust outlet pattern so are not interchangable. The 84 uses the distributorless ADI ignition box. The 84 definately uses low dome pistons (not sure about the 1150). Different carbs that use an enricher circuit instead of choke shutters. Around that time they switched to a modern clamp and power trim setup.
I don't think that those are prop shaft rated in 84. That happened in 85 or 86 with the difference being those 115's have power ported pistons.
