I'm planning to buy a 25' tritoon and would like to get it to about 30mph or more at about 80 percent of full throttle. I don't need fast acceleration and the boat will be used exclusively on the St. John's river as a pleasure craft. I need the motor to be reliable, quiet, and efficient so I'm leaning toward a 4-stroke.

I've been considering a Honda 130BF, or maybe a Yamaha. The boat is rated to a max of 150hp. A dealer is trying to sell me a Mercury 115 EFI and says it's very quiet but the info I've found on the Merc suggests that it's not in the same ballpark as the Honda or Yamaha.

I would appreciate any comments.

G'day. Mercury and Yamaha have combined on their development of four strokes. The powerhead for the mercury 115 EFI is identical to that of the Yam. I would lean towards the merc as they have a greater range of props for maximum performance. Dont know about your part of the world but here in Oz the warrenty for Merc is better than Yam.
