Default Mercury Flywheel Puller

I have a 1975 Mercury 850 Serial No: 4099581 and need a flywheeler puller. I called my local dealer and he said that he would order one for $100.00. Does anyone know where I can get one for less than $100.00?

The mechanic at the dealership said it had to be pulled with the internal puller. The one that screws into the thread that surrounds the flywheel nut. Anything else will damage the flywheel, according to him.

Check with A & D Welding and boat repair at 501 362 2075. He is a Merc Mechanic and makes these.

That's the way harmonic balancer pullers work. Just use a real good grade (5) of bolts. You can also go to:www.jaysmithracing.comI think he makes a Mercury flywheel puller but it's expensive too.Just use the harmonic balancer puller.c/6Hooty

G'day Steve. I have a 150 hp Mariner that needed the flywheel pulled. I spent about two weeks on and off trying to get it off. I was using a harmonic balance puller with no success. Lots of tightening, banging and swearing. I gave up and called a mobile outboard mechanic. He used the screw in type of puller and took him about five minutes to get it out. What a relief.

Just bought myself a harmonic puller for my 6hp and 15hp Merc. This one should work on a 150hp because this one is pretty hefty. It is the screw type similar to the picture but a lot larger and adjustable. Go to any auto parts store and they are about $15. I got mine at Autozone for that price. I think mine is a harmonic / steering wheel puller. Mine looks exactly the same as the one pictured in my service manual. Comes with many sizes of screws also.
