ooppps connected the battery backwards

I have a 1983 115 hp merc with power trim and tilt. While not paying total attention when re connecting the battery I reversed the pos and neg. Of cource I saw a small spark which reminded me that I now have toasted the battery. However after purchasing a new battery and hooking it up correctly this time, I have power to my running lights and horn but no starter or power trim functions are working. Any ideas about what I can do to fix the prob? Thanks...

You didn't hurt your battery, but rest assured you blew a fuse somewhere on the engine. The Merc. experts might be able to tell you where it is.

I have a circut breaker on my 89 140 merc i/o I guess that it is for such an instance check all your inline fuses and look for a breaker

I don't believe the rectifier is fused on that engine. What that means is likely a new rectifier purchase in your future if the connection was made for a second or two.....
