You guys have scared me to death. I never heard the term FICHT. I recently purchased tw  o "new" 1999 (built Aug 98) 150's to power a 25' Mako. How can I find out if they are the "dreaded" FICHT engines.

Hmmm. 1999 V6 FICHT engines. Built by OMC in its death throes.

Among the most dreaded of all, Off Shore. :(

Some have performed well without trouble. Too many have blown up or otherwise expired.

Check with a Bombardier dealer to see what updates he might have to lessen the risk.

I will move this to General Outboard.

Good luck. :)

GOOD NEWS, I think. My outboard guy says these are carbureted engines and not FICHT engines. Does that make sense, or is it the 98 - 99 engines in general that is the problem.

If they are carbed, rest easy... You should be able to verify this easily. Just look for the carbs..

Thanks rickdb1boat. I feel better. I didn't know what FICHT meant. I do recognize all six carbs though.
