I am mounting a 40 hp Mercury outboard on a 16' trihull. The motor mounting brackets have several holes to mount the motor at differant heights. What is the proper height to mount the motor? How deep should the motor sit in the water, and what is the proper height of the propellor to the hull ? It's my first boat so forgive my ignorance. Thanks

Re: Outboard mounting

On the motor there is a plate that wraps around the lower unit. It is called the cavation plate. This plate should be within one inch of the bottom of the boat. The way I normally measure them is with a straight edge. I put it on the center line of the bottom of the boat and check it against the motor.

Hitman
