1979,175,6cyl.mariner,cd Had reverse was out 3hrs,tried reverse at dock,all noise no go,out of water goes right in reverse,have clymer book,looking for clues before tearing into it,why is it called boating?should be called repairing.replaced impeller beginning of year.

Are your adjustments for the controls enough to make the motor engage it into reverse? That is the easiest thing to do first then let me know
