Hi,I have two 2-stroke Mariner 55hp engines, one is a 1988 model the other is 1989. The guy I bought them off said to run them on a 50:1 mix. However, since then I have been told to run them on 100:1. I did have trouble with a plug getting fouled wiht oil the other day which makes me think I should be running on 100:1 instead of 50:1, but can anyone confirm this before I do starting running with less oil?Thanks,Jonathan.

G'Day. Forgive me if I am wrong but I don't think that Mariner made a 55HP in the late 80's. If the motors are 2 Cyl then they are Built by Yamaha in Early 80's If they are 3 Cyl then they are Mercury built. As to fuel mixture. I am not aware of any 2 stroke putboard that cannot run on 50:1, even if the manufacturer recommends 100:1. With modern TCW3 oil and the correct plugs you should not get oiling problems unless there is a problem with the motor. Cylinder head(2 Cyl gasket only) or maybe ignition. You may get an oiling problem if you are idling for a very long tome. 40 mins or more.Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks. I suppose what I am more concerned about is if the manufacturer has specified 50:1 and I damage the engine by running it on 100:1. I could just run it on 50:1 to be safe, however it would nice to be able to use half the amount of oil if 100:1 should be used rather than 50:1.Jonathan
