These are great proven motors. They have a really good power to weight ratio since the next larger outboard from merc is a much heavier V6. It will do a funny thing at idle where it drops 2 cylinders and sounds like it is going to stall. They are supposed to do this. I think it is a fuel economy thing. Sometimes people complain about this if they try to cruise around 2000 RPM because the engine will hunt between the 2 and 4 cyl. operation. Not to worry though just run it WOT.
