the motor runs great, byt revs to full throttle when put in reverse and forward can only go about half speed. any ideas where I can get some info on this?

is it possible that you prop hub is slipping? Try another prop.....

Have you checked the Throttle control box? could be something inside has either worn or broken - I have a similar problem with my 40 HP Mercury. The problem with mine was that the actual cam inside was not correctly postioned and needed to be adjusted (some fine tuning needed to make sure you are actually getting full throttle at the carby end - but also getting enought revs for reverse).Hope this helps
