I recently replaced a cracked plastic pinion gear (318447) on my 1968 6hp starter, and decided to also replace the stripped one on my 1978 6. The starter gear pops up but fails to mesh properly with the flywheel. I can't see any way to adjust the pinion gear to move it closer to the flywheel...it just barely engages and will obviously strip again in short order. What am I missing? Thanks!

are you sure you have the correct part.

Yup, part # is correct per my dealer and BRP website. Looks like it just isn't close enough to the flywheel to engage properly. :confused:
