'77 Evinrude 85hp will not run in water

I have put a carb kit on and of course cleaned them very good. I have changed the water pump impaler. The problem is, it runs fine in the back yard with the garden hose hooked up. But, when I get it to the lake, it will not stay running in the water. I have yet to even get it off the trailer fully. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Welcome t-diddy!<br /><br />Engines will run in the driveway but not in the water because there is no backpressure against the cylinders when the engine is setting in the driveway.<br /><br />Do a sync and link and then dump the engine in the water for the running part of the procedure. Should make a difference.
