I took apart the control box to put a new cable on everything is ok but when I try to put it back from two separate halves there is a little ball bearing and a spring that look like they have to be pressed back in order match the two halves of the control box back together. i have a late 1978 control and motor. I need help anything would be great, Thanks David

Re: Johnson Control HELP!!!

it's been a long time since i've been in a johnson controller. but i believe the spring and ball bearing are part of the neutral safety switch. it rides in a groove of the shift cam, and is the detent ball when you are in neutral. this is a semi educated guess.

tashasdaddy is correct. But, mine's been missing for many years and I can still "feel" the neutral position.
