WATER Problem or Not

I have a 70 evinrude 1976, 3 cyclder.....I just replaced impeller and a coucple of other parts, engine runs fine. the thig is i got water running out the side holes which is good, BUT THERE IS NO WATER COMING from top two holes were some smoke comes out above water, it will start coming out then it stops, is that normal or is it supposed to come out full time??????????? If anyone has this engine or knows please help....DO boat engines have termostats?????.....

Hi Rich and welcome!<br /><br />Yes, your engine has a t-stat. It's under that funny cover at the top of the head.<br /><br />There is a misty spray that comes out the exhaust relief ports and it will pick up when the t-stat opens and then drop off again when it closes. If your running on muffs in the drive way, you may not see anything at all since there is no water up in the midsection like there would be with the engine in the water.<br /><br />Just make sure the engine is not overheating and running at a normal temp.
