I have a 1985, 175 hp johnson on my 85 skeeter. When I am loading it onto the trailer with the trim up and I have to give it some gas to get all the way up on the trailer the motor falls down to the lowest position. It's like the hydraulics fail and let it fall down. It will also not trim up when accelerating or cruising about 30 mph. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Re: tilt/trim problem?

im sure all thats happening is the motor is reverting to its position for proper max trim. after about 1500 rpm the motor will settle to a 15 degree trim max.(or so ).the same when your cruising . the motor will only trim so far and thats it.when your moving above 1500 rpm will the motor ttrim in or out atall? if so ,when trimming iut you may just be getting to max trim and thats all it will allow.

as an add on to my reply,my 90 rude under 1000 rpm you can trim to right out of water if you want, as soon as you gas it a little it will settle to its max allowable trim. this is normal.

Raise the lower unit all the way up. Remove the fill plug and top it off. Cycle the lower unit up and down 5 times and recheck the fluid level. Do this until it will take no more fluid...
