This is my second season with a 1997 175hp V6 Johnson Oceanrunner and I am experiencing starting problems. She starts fine but after running for a while then sitting around she doesn't want to start back up. This has happened about five times and gets discouraging. She eventually will start back up after turning her over, choking, throttling but takes an extended period of time. It takes a special touch to get it back running and I don't seem to have it. Any thoughts?

Welcome!!<br /><br />What spark plugs are you using? How old is the fuel? What grade is it?

Thanks!<br /><br />Spark plugs are champion and we used the model recommended by the owners manual. New this season b/c we thought that might be part of last year's problem. Still quit.<br /><br />Fuel is last season with stabilizer. 93 octane. Did notice that the fuel/water filter was filled right up. Changed and put a new Mercury filter on for this season.

Ok, lets get rid of that fuel and get some fresh 87 in there. If you're saying it has water in it we gotta get rid of everything. Drain the carbs too. If there's water in the carbs then we need to run the motor as soonas possible on good fuel & oil to make sure it doesn't sit on the steel parts inside. Like the crank, rods and bearings.

Yes, 87 is the recommended fuel as long as the motor is still stock, as produced. 93 should only be used if you've increased the compression and it's needed.
