howday all!

fast question: I have a 1971 Evinrude Fisherman 6hp. I am told that i need to use Type C gear oil for the gear case? is this true? i see you can buy regular SAE 90 gear oil and this is good for most but does this engine need the type c? why?

what does "electroshift and hydroelectric shift OMC engines " mean??

thanks in advance! great site!

any good quality gear oil is ok
type 'c' was recommended when it was new probably because 'hi-vis' was not avaiable back then

Way off MM1. Type C is for the older Electric shift lower units. Period. Lighter weight. If not that type of lower unit, use any Marine Lower Unit Gearlube
