the plug....

may sound like a stupid question, but should the screw end of the plug be screwed up till all of the rubber is inside the plug hole?

being able to see the other end of the plug, I offer you this....as you turn the T screw it actually EXPANDS the plug by compressing it to fit securly in the hole, my rule is, ,,,, if i can't pull it out, then it won't come out. I have never used a tool of any sort to tighten the plug either,,just my fingers...have fun boating

What cistn says and yes you should first loosen the screw until all of the rubber up to the flange can be inserted into the hole and then tighten using only your fingers to do so. Pull on plug when done to insure it is in tight. Time to replace the plug if the rubber has gotten hard or shiny and can't get tight enough easily by hand. Recommend always carrying a spare. Their cheap.
