Driveway statup was no issue. First trip out -boat would not plane. Fished all day at limp speeds with some difficulty restarting. Temperature alarm went off when limping back to dock. If I fearthered choke -engine RPM would increase.Had flow at water outlet and it was not excessive in temperature.Where do I start?

Re: Johnson 1993-Model TE60TLETD

Welcome to iboats. Ahh, from "beautiful downton Brownsburg" as Bob and Tom used to say. Limp speed usually indicates a loss of spark to a cylinder or a fuel problem. Since you needed to use the choke that narrows it down to fuel. Sounds like your one of your carbs is gummed up and your high speed jet is clogged. I would purchase two carb kits and redo both of them. Soak them first in a good carb cleaner and make sure that you blow all the orafices out good with compressed air. I think each kit is around 20.00. Take your time and it shouldn't be a big job.

Good idea. I'd suggest a compression test also. If you were riding around with fuel not going thru a carb, that cylinder wasn't getting oil either.

Will start soon-regarding compression test-should 1 plug be removed and other two left in or should all be removed and test each cylinder with other two plugs out? Is it necessary to ground the wire of cylinder being tested?

Remove all spark plugs and either pull the safety switch or with the key in the off position jump the starter solenoid.

It is possible that the engine thinks it is running hot. If it gets hot, the ingniton system will go into "slow" mode-limiting the engine to 2500 rpm. How old is the water pump impeller?

Don't know since I purchased boat used early last year-used about 8 times last summer with no issues and fully winterized-stabilizer and run gas from carbs with muffs on.Kinda shocked when this happened.

Re: Johnson 1993-Model TE60TLETD

I recently purchased a 91 TE60 and have been doing some research on a high temp warning. The digging I've done so far has indicated there were three or so service bulletins that apply to this model for the early 90s year range. I lost the web bookmarks and have to do the search over, but they had something to do with an improper head temp sensor, an improperly sized water pump, and an improperly configured telltale system. Going from memory, I think one of them might have been Service Bulletin 2221 or something with that set of numbers. If I can find more info, I'll post it.

Thanks-I grunted and bought the $80 factory service manuel-That does not include service bulletins and I don't know where those would be available.Next week ,I am going to jump into this with both feet and will advise if I make progress.
