Re: evinrude starflite 75hp #75383E

thank you I also have one more question. Im new to an outboard this old and the key ignition will not work. I can directly arc the negative and positive wires to get the motor to turn over, but she had no spark. as dumb luck my girlfriend held the key in the turnover position while i arced the wires and it fired off and would only stay running if she held the key in that position. When she did hold it it was fine and the starter was not engaging but if she let it return to the running position it would shut off. what do you think it might be?

i'm not familiar with this motor but starters/switches in general sounds like some ignition wires are crossed and/or diconnected.
if the switch was wired correctly it seems the the starter would have tried to stay engaged while she held the key over.

oh... i just thought,, maybe the solenoid ? battery to one side... other side to starter... then one from the ignition.

the biggst problem is the wire color are not correct for the way i know and alot of the wiring in a motor this old does not make sense
