Default Cold natured Mariner and OB oils

Nice infoboard. Been looking for somebody who understands this stuff. Got a 93 60hp 3cyl Mariner. Started getting cold natured 3 wks ago. Would shut down if engaged before completely warm and seemed to flood upon trying to restart. Had to wait a while to restart and then needed the fast idle lever to run. Bought used in Jan and the previous owner said the carbs had been done the previous fall. Plugs looked wet, carbs looked clean, been run weekly since I bought it, first trouble I've had. Runs good when finally warmed up but I get scared to shut it off. Pulled and cleaned tanks, lines, carbs, etc. Put new plugs in just on principle. Noticed yesterday that the wire to the temp sensor was disconnected from the harness. The wires were crammed under the ignition module. Could the mechanic have left that undone on purpose and what would be the effect? I don't remember messing with the wires although I might have moved them while cleaning the head but that was last winter. Any ideas why she got cranky? Also, the Clymer manual I just bought calls for TCW-2 instead of TCW-3 which I've been using. What's the difference?

Sounds like you might have a flooding carb or also check your enrichment valve make it is not stuck open or seeping the valve is on the port side of engine goldish in color with two wires and two hoses coming off of it. The temp sensor wire will have no effect on the running of engine just won't tell you that the engine is getting hot if not plugged up. The difference of the two oils is that the tcw-3 has better additives and helps to prevent carbon build up.

thanks MM. I hooked up the wire last night and the horn started a pulsating beep. Guess that's why it was disconnected. If the temp sensor or low oil sensor don't affect the running of the motor, I will probably leave them as is and concentrate on carb adjustment. Could be I have been standing on the enrichment valve when cranking. I thought it worked like a choke LOL. I've been running cheap gas too with alcohol in it but, thanks to the board, I've seen the error of my ways and will repent.
