15 HP Mariner - Cold Performance

Guys or Gals,

My '87 15 HP Mariner exhibits poor cold operating performance. It will not idle when cold. It acts like it's starving for fuel. Once the mtor is warm (2 to 3 minutes), it idles and runs fine. It seems to be consistent. When I stop and fish for an hour or so, same thing.

Any thoughts?

Alot of variables here so let's start with the basics.Anytime you have a problem like you are describing, it is always wise to check the vitals of your engine. Do a compression test , do an ignition output test.take a fuel sample to inspect for water contamination or rancid fuel.Is this unit hard to start?Are you running the correct plugs and are they gapped to spec?When was the last time you did a decarbon?

case, richen the idle mixture slightly...it will help....
