Default 1984 50 hp mercury doesn't spit water out pee hole

I have a 1984 50 hp mercury that doesn't spit water out of the pee hole but it comes out the exhaust. I replaced the impellor and it still didn't spit water out the pee hole. I also found out that the pee hole was plugged with mud, I unplugged it and still it wouldn't spit out any water. Instead I can feel warm air blowing out of the pee hole now that its unplugged. I was told to check and see if I had a plugged or bad thermostat but I can't find the thermostat. Do I have a thermostat and if so where is it? What does it look like. If there is nothing wrong with the thermostat then why else could it not be pumping water? Also why is there warm air coming out of the pee hole? Any help would be appreciated. thanks Nick.

Thermostat housing is in the "head" of the motor. The head is the part on the powerhead that is farthest to the back. It is where the spark plugs are. Look there for some type of bulge, or place where there are bolts that don't go around the "head". If ya can't find it, write back, we'll find it eventuallyAlso, the thermostat, when you get to it, will look kinda like Saturn, or something to that effect, if you don't know what you are looking for. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Are you sure you have that pee hole unplugged. If you have water coming out the exhaust I would think it should be coming out the pee hole too. Pull the line loose from the engine that feeds the pee hole. sometimes trash will get trapped at that spot. Put the muffs on it or put it in the water and crank it after you have that line disconnected. Crank it up and take a soft piece of wire and see if you can clean out the fitting that the hose hooked to. I bet it will start peeing again.

Hey Nick,Had the similar problem on my old 'rude. Fixed mine back taking the head gasket off and the head gasket cover and cleaning all the crud out. Works like a charm now.
