1999 Evinrude 5hp 4 stroke runs out of fuel. I have replaced the primer bulb, fuel filter and the diaphram in the fuel pump. The fuel pump seems to be working as long as there is fuel coming to it. Cleaned the carb did not seem to have a problem with the float sticking and also took the pick-up tube out of the tank to check if it was split. It will run for 5 minutes or so depending on how hard it is pushed and then runs out of fuel. I can keep it running by squeezing the primer and it will run for another 5 minutes before running out of fuel.

New primer bulb bad?
Check valve in the fuel pump?
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

How far below the powerhead is your tank? Do you have the vent open on the tank?

Are you using an aftermarket hose and bulb or a good one from one of the outboard manufacturers' lines?

I had that problem with my Nissan 40C. It turned out that it had the wrong fitting where the fuel line attaches to the tank.
