Default Mariner Skeg repair

Busted the lower 2 inches off of my skeg on my 95 model 25 hp Mariner--Anyone know of a repair kit? I find kits for larger motors but have seen nothing for a 25..OR I'd be interested in an old lower unit anyone had laying around so I could cut the skeg off of it..Thanks

Welcome to iboats.com.There is a bolt-on skeg called "Skeggard".They can make one even tho it wont be listed. These are actual skeg extentions used to protect the prop and skeg. But in you case, better late than never. Providing that you have enough of the old skeg to bolt to (apprx one + one/half inch), you can install one of them. The only problem is thier outrageous cost. Yhis is due to the fact that they are hand-machined out of stainless, to fit you particular skeg.Another avenue would be a good steel/machine shop, who could fabricate a piece, or an attachable skeg. However, if the l/u and propshaft survived, it should be fine to use, and will be unoticeable underway. Of course, the next obnstruction would probly waste your l/u, but you spent zip so far, so you're still ahead.Persoanlly, if it were mine, that's what I would do..Just inspect the lube ,refill the l/u, and keep gettin it.

Thanks for the quick response--Others have told me to keep on trucking like it is-and yes I was lucky-it did not hurt the I/O--actualy belongs to my father and he is a very peculiar fellow(and me too) anyway he does want to fix it for next time protection and cosmetics..where I work, I can get our machine shop to make whatever I need-I just need some details..If I had something made, does it just bolt to one side of what is left or how does it attach?? I appreciate any info..Thanks

Hi TommyAnother idea is to just take it to the prop shop or other qualified aluminium welder and have them weld a chunk on. After a little grinding filing, shaping and painting you will never know this happened.

I'll second that, same thing happened to mine and so I tIG welded it back on. Any engineering company with a TIG welder should be able to do this. Just make sure they don't let the casing get too warm or you will cook the seals !

You can run without it, Tommytom, but the next rock will destroy your prop. $$$.I'm with 12Footer on this. I use a SkegGard with excellent results. Fished LOTW a few weeks ago, for a week. Lake is 3' low, so I bumped many rocks. Slight marring of SkegGard, zero marks on prop.Remember that the job of the skeg is to protect your prop. You can fix it many times or buy several SkegGards for the price of one SS prop.
