I have a 1969 Johnson 55 hp with hydro-electric
shift. When I use the earmuffs to test the engine I notice the prop is still moving while in neutral, and when I shift to reverse there is no change. What test can I do to see if the shifter is functioning. Many Thanks for the help ya'll have given me and my stupidness.
papion007

Re: Neutral

Do a search for hydro electric shift as there are a bunch of threads on how to check this. I don't do anything with these but there are several guys who know this system inside and out.

Re: Neutral

While in neutral "CAREFULLY AND GENTLY" stick a broom stick against the prop blades and see if it stops.
