Default fuel mixture for 74/79 Evinrude motor

We have recently acquired a new boat with what is either a 74 or 79 Evinrude 4 hp motor. What we are trying to find out is what the proper fuel mixture would be. If anyone can assist us that would be appreciated.Thank youCIndy

50:1.That is: one pint of TCW-3 rated OUTBOARD only rated oil to six gallons of regular unleaded gas. (87 octane).

Conventional wisedom is that todays OB motor oil is much improved over 70's oil so a 50:1 mix works fine in older motors. Be sure to use a good quality oil and you should be all set.

The 4hp does better with a little extra oil than the manufacturer's recommended mix. Check out the Oil Mix FAQ in the FAQ forum for details. It has nothing to do with how well the oil works, but rather the plain bearings at both ends of the 4hp's connecting rods and the lack of a proper bottom main seal or bearing.
