Re: Freshwater vs. saltwater

they can all be use in salt water. it doesn't matter. the main thing is the maint. after.. a good wash down, a good flush with the muffs, 15.minutes. the use of salt away never hurts. keep a close eye on your lower unit oil, salt water intrusion is much worse than fresh water, although, neither are good.

Re: Freshwater vs. saltwater

You would be amazed by how little difference there usually is. If it says Saltwater, it has certain coatings and anodes to prevent corrosion. Don't tell anybody, but the non-saltwater versions usually have at least most of the protection that the saltwater series have. In some cases there is no difference at all. It costs money for extra processes and materials, but sometimes it's more expensive to have two versions than to just make them all with the extra processes and materials.

Most of the motors built from the 90s on are generally far more saltwater effect resistant than those made before the 90s.
